At first, in my sketches, the hand gripped the stem.

It wanted to control the Arum lily, to force it to hold a specific direction, as if its growth depended on that grip.

But the further I went, the more this posture felt wrong to me. So the gesture changed.
The hand no longer grips.
It simply positions itself beneath the flower, to support it without constraining it.
It no longer directs: it accompanies.

This is the shift I wanted to paint : the moment when we stop wanting to control everything, and choose instead to carry what is fragile, giving it room to grow at its own pace.

This is what we call « L’espoir ».
